Research shows that half of adults in the United States make New Year’s resolutions, but less than 10% keep them for more than a few months. If marketing was on your resolution list, how’s it going? Did you make a plan? Are you following it? Are you having fun? You should be as marketing for lawyers can be fun and productive.
Go back to the basics:
Marketing and business development requires a plan with clear, actionable steps. Focus on the 3 T’s of marketing: Time, Talent and Target.
- How much time can you allot to marketing?
- What are you good at (your talent)? Do you love public speaking? Give a CLE. Did you minor in journalism? Start blogging?
- Are you a social butterfly? Sign up for a Happy Hour Zoom or other networking event with your target market.
What are your goals?
Tangible goals, so you know when you meet them.
- Add 3 new clients in the first half of the year.
- Expand referral network by 50% in 2021.
- Devote 1 hour/week to blogging.
Hold yourself accountable, rally some co-workers or a friend, to do check-ins, and celebrate when you hit the target!
Remember – nothing happens overnight. Build your marketing to-do list. Cut through the noise and focus on what really matters. Walk before you run.

Hire a Professional
A few years ago, a friend posted on Facebook that her resolution was to know her limits. In the post she asked for recommendations for a cleaning service for her home. She knew she wanted a clean house, but she also knew she wasn’t going to keep up on it. She said, “I know it’s not hard. I know I can clean it myself. But I also know I’d rather spend my time doing other things, and if I don’t get to it, I’ll beat myself up over it.” So she hired a wonderful cleaning person and moved on with her life. Marketing doesn’t have to be a thorn in your side. Marketing for lawyers is our thing. Call us for help.
