We were on a call with a client who was saying how he has to clean up messes that LegalZoom creates for his clients. This is not news to us. We’ve been hearing for years how LegalZoom is not the be-all-end-all when you need legal help. That’s how we feel about SEO companies. SEO companies cannot completely replace content – content is king!
No Magic Wand
While there is certainly a place for SEO Companies (and LegalZoom), it’s not the be-all-end-all to marketing.
We just got this message through our website:
“Do you want to be on the first page (or even first place) of Google search results (not to mention paid ads)? Moreover, by paying only $20 per month. With a single subscription, you can place your link on 58 pcs High Domain Authority Directory [DA 19 to DA 69]. So, your website get higher and higher rank in Google in just 2-4 weeks You don’t need any technical knowledge. You just need to let us know the url of your website and the keywords you want to rank higher.”
Typos in their sales message are free of charge.
In all seriousness, we know this is enticing, it’s only $20! But seriously, no. Just like LegalZoom can get your client a contract, you know it’ may end up costing them more in the long run because you’ll probably need to re-do the contract AND clean up the mess of the crummy contract they got for $49 (or whatever the fee is).
It’s the same with an SEO company. They promise these results, and you may get them. For a short time. But, chances are, the tactics they use are not aligned with Google’s algorithm or best practices, and you’ll end up penalized by Google for using those tricks.
Let’s get real. The internet won’t exist without content. And, you won’t be ranked (read: FOUND) without good content that answers the questions your potential clients are asking. We’re not the first to say it, and we won’t be the last: CONTENT IS KING, BABY!
That’s why we’ve been talking about it forever! Check out this blog for tips on how to incorporate content marketing into your marketing plan! This blog talks about why content is king and what you should do about it.
